GSU reacts
ITANAGAR, Sept 16: Reacting to the clarification given by West Siang district administration over alleged collection of certain percentage of amount from the compensation given to people affected by two lane BRTF road from Aalo to Mechukha,
Galo Students’ Union (GSU) said that GSU had never alleged the DA’s involvement in the unauthorized collection of money. Rather we had lodged a complaint with the administration against the ‘Cross Check Committee’ after being hinted by the Kamba ADC that the committee was allegedly collecting the amount from the affected people on behalf of the PAPLOA (Project Affected Peoples’ Land Owner Association).
We had urged the administration to look into the matter and initiate necessary measure to stop such unauthorised collection with immediate effect, GSU said.
While sticking to its demand, GSU demanded the West Siang administration to constitute a committee, including member (s) from GSU, to enquire into the matter without further delay.
Also the administration should issue notice to the EAC, Town Magistrate Aalo and ADC Kamba to stop collection of money in their respective area by any organization, the release added.

AAPSU, CCLAF team calls on DC, discuss land allotment issues
ITANAGAR, Sept 16: All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) led by its president Kamta Lapung along with Capital Complex Land Affected Forum (CCLAF) met the Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner and discussed in details all land related issues.
According to an AAPSU release, the Deputy Commissioner has assured to issue clear directives to dispose of cases relating to issues, including mortgage and Non Encumbrance Certificate, transfer of land allotment from one person to another, land possession certificate etc. He also informed the delegations that there is no any clear cut directives from state government for issuance of Duplicate Land Passbook.
The Deputy Commissioner said that he had sent many a proposal to Government for either regularization of all the occupied land or auction of the same plots or imposing penalty to generate revenue for Government. But, there has been no any directive from the Government so far, the release said.
Further, the AAPSU led delegation has agreed with Capital Complex administration to carry out eviction drive in Right of the National Highways, encroachment of land within educational institutions, hospitals, festival grounds, departmental premises, playgrounds etc. AAPSU said that there are thousands of genuine applicants, who are still waiting for approval of their land allotment since last 25 to 30 years.

AAPSU demanded the State Government to give clear cut direction to the authority concerned to dispose off all land related pending cases as soon as possible and stop the eviction drive at the earliest failing to do so will invite strong democratic agitation from common masses.

During the course of discussion, the Director (Land Management) clarified that no land allotment cases has been kept pending in his office. He explicitly stated that all pending cases of land allotment have already been endorsed to the DC, Capital Complex long back.

SUMA concerned at poor education scenario
ITANAGAR, Sept 16: Students’ Union Movement of Arunachal Pradesh (SUMA), in a meeting here yesterday, discussed on memorandum submitted to the concern authority highlighting the various grievances/problems of students and schools within twin capital towns of Itanagar and Naharlagun.
Education secretary of the Union Logun Rigio, while highlighting the various problems faced by the student community, such as bus service along with student travel concession card etc, has advocated for pressurizing the government for early redressal of their grievances. He also informed that authorities of some elementary schools have not yet refunded school fees collected from students despite instructions from the higher ups.
Several other executive members also spoke on the main subject and viewed the poor
condition of the school seriously. They opined for taking up the matter seriously
without further delay. Meanwhile, the meeting unanimously decided to give authority

DC conducts unannounced visit to IMFL wholesale shops
ROING, Sept 16: Lower Dibang Valley Deputy Commissioner Shiv Kumar along with B K Singh, Superintendent of Police had made a surprise inspection of wine wholesalers in the district headquarter Roing today. They were accompanied by K Zirdo, Superintendent (Tax & Excise). The surprise inspection was done as a part of routine inspection to check illegal import and selling of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and Beers in the district.
During inspection at two wine wholesalers in the Roing township, excess quantities of IMFL and Beer case were found which was more than the quantities maintained in the stock register. It was also found that the stock registers were not properly maintained and daily sales registers were not up to date.
District Collector has cautioned the wholesalers to maintain the stock register properly and neat & clean and also to update the daily sale registers on daily basis. If any irregularities are found in future, necessary action would be initiated, he warns. Many shops in and around Roing township were also raided and huge quantities of IMFL and Beers were seized by the police and officials of tax and excise department recently in order to check illegal selling of IMFL and beers in the district. Lohit DC gives priority on development
TEZU, Sept 16: The Lohit district Deputy Commissioner Rajeev Takuk convened a coordination meeting at DC Conference Hall today.
Superintendent of Police S. Kuruvilla, all the Heads of Departments, Branch Officers and Admin Officers along with representatives from Army, ITBP and CRPF were present in the meeting.
The DC took stock of all the developmental works under every department and discussed on the implementation of plans and policies of the Government by the agencies (departmental) viz., road communication, health and family welfare, power, water supply, agriculture, education, forest and environment, textile and handicraft, ICDS, Small Savings, APEDA, Urban Development etc.
Various department heads highlighted their achievements before the DC. Some of the grievances and practical problems faced by the departments while implementing schemes were also discussed.
While advocating for quality development the Deputy Commissioner said that every possible help and assistance will be provided to every department. Growth and development of the area is our priority, he said.
He also emphasized on revenue generation by the departments and discussed on the fundamental problems especially matters relating to land acquisition by the armed forces (Army, CRPF etc) and also instructed every department to install biometric attendance system latest by the Oct 1.
SP Tezu also briefef the house on the law and order. He said that forces and protection will be made available for special drives in the district.
Expressing concern over the increasing number of accident cases, which is second only to State capital, he said that special awareness drives on traffic rules will be organized besides enforcement on basic driving rules.

MEHAO LAKE : An unexplored tourist destination
The Mehao Lake, a Natural Lake amidst lush green forest is located in the heart of Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary in Lower Dibang Valley District of Arunachal Pradesh. It’s water surface area is approximately 100 hectare with a periphery of about 4800 meter. Little below is another small lake called Mini Mehao lake which is 2.50 hectare in area. The Lakes is situated just 14 kms away from Roing, the district headquarter of Lower Dibang Valley district.

The area is very rich in flora and fauna as the Mehao Wild Life Sanctuary is covered
with dense forest. The common associate of tree species found in this Wildlife Sanctuary
are-
The wild mammals like Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Leopard Cat, Jungle Cat, Fishing Cat, Spotted Linsang, Common Mongoose, Wild Dog, Jackal, Indian Porcupine, Himalayan Black Beer, Assamese Macaque, Stump tailed macaque, Slow Loris, Hoolock gibbon, Sambar and Barking Deer and birds like Great Hornbill, Goosander, Large cormorant, Mallard, Godwall, Cotton teal, Three toed forest kingfisher, etc. are found in this sanctuary. The migratory ducks has also been observed during the winter seasons in the Lake.
However, there is no road connectivity to the Lake as any kind of developmental activities
that leads to deforestation is prohibited in the area without prior clearance/approval
from the Wildlife Department. There are two ways to visit to the Mehao Lake, one
is through the bank of Eze/Deopani River covering 14 km from Roing and has to climb
a steeper slope to reach to the lake. Another is via Abango Village about 12 km from
Roing by leaving the vehicle at last stop somewhere 5 km further from the village
at foothills and then trekking for another 14 km on foot before reaching the Lake.
To make full survey or thorough view of the Lake one has to go fully prepared with
light beddings and materials for one night halt as there is no provision for lodging
in the vicinity. One old SPT Type Tourist Lodge constructed by the Department of
Wildlife way back in the year 2003-
The Lake, if given proper attention with well maintained treks, if not motorable roads and infrastructure at least for overnight halt is a potential tourist destination for adventure tourism, birds and animal lovers, trekkers and for sightseeing. (Contributed by Ajay Saring, DIPRO Roing.)

Millions of people in South and Southeast Asia may be at risk of arsenic poisoning as massive pumping of groundwater pushes tainted water closer to uncontaminated aquifers, scientists warned in a new study. The study, published by experts from Switzerland, the US and Vietnam, examined changing groundwater flow over one decade in Vietnam’s capital, Hanoi.
Arsenic, one of the most common inorganic contaminants found in drinking water worldwide, can be highly toxic to humans. Even in low concentrations arsenic can damage health if ingested over long periods. It is associated with cancer of the skin, lungs, bladder and kidneys.
At some sites in Vietnam investigated for the study, arsenic concentrations were up to 50 times higher than the internationally recommended limit of 10 micrograms of arsenic per litre.
The study focused on a village on the outskirts of Hanoi, Van Phuc, where residents
have private wells. Although the sample was small, it is believed similar processes
may be underway elsewhere in large Asian cities that are pumping more groundwater,

Almost every day in our dailies we find different sections of our society pleading
the state government for attention towards poor road conditions. Why do we only wait
for the state government alone?? I feel proud and appreciate the members of Yupo
colony, Chandranagar for building an approach road (400 m) with their own hard earned
money. I don’t appeal everyone to construct roads, but at least we can maintain our

Pachin colony is still in Stone Age
Dear Editor,
In this fast developing twin capital city, there exists a place which is on back gear towards the Stone Age. I am talking about the most and ever neglected Pachin Colony, Naharlagun. As like any other sector road of the capital, road condition of Pachin Colony is horrible and will beat any other colony road when it comes to being bad. At least we are happy that it cannot get worse as it has reached the height of being bad. We have been hoping for decades that with time the road condition will improve, but in vain. We even heard rumors about money being sanctioned for the purpose, but seem it truly was just a rumor. People residing on the either side of the road also played their much needed role of dumping excavated earth on the road; blocking drainage etc. Another rumor was about building a much needed motor able bridge in place of the present hanging bridge, but seems it too is a disappointment just like the previous one.
Through your esteemed daily I would like to request the concerned authority to look into the matter, as in case of emergency like medical and fire, it takes very long time for the help to reach.
